Video Conferencing

Videoconferencing within Kent Schools

Schools connected  to the Kent Public Services Network (KPSN) are free to use the EIS Gatekeeper for videoconferencing between schools within the schools broadband network and to external sites. It enables inbound and outbound calls to be made by IP through our firewall traversal unit, ISDN using our ISDN Gateway or you can use the Janet Video Conferencing Service (JVCS) to schedule calls with 3rd party content providers. We also have a Multipoint Conference Unit (MCU) which enables schools to host conferences between more than 2 sites simultaneously.

Using this service requires either a dedicated H.323 compatible videoconferencing endpoint which has an integrated camera and codec or a software codec with external webcam, microphone and speakers. Please see the Introduction to Video Conferencing for more information. To register for this service please complete and return this registration form.

Steve James maintains a blog regarding video conferencing and the Kent Learning Zone has a videoconferencing collaboration site which includes a directory of enabled schools.

If you require support for this service then please contact the KPSN Schools Broadband Service Desk on 01622 206040 or email kcn.helpdesk@kent.gov.uk
