ICT2008

Venue: Ashford International Hotel

Date:  3rd July 2008

“Extremely captivating and inspirational” is how a conference delegate described our 19th ICT Conference.

This year’s theme “Changing technology – Changing lives” aptly described the conference programme opened by Andy Tyerman, Head of Learning, Becta.

Craig Bull, e-Learning Co-ordinator, West Kent Learning Federation got the conference off to a flying start by reflecting his work with Computer Warehouse in the development and use of new technology to improve his teaching of Physical Education.  Advisory Services Kent provided a well known double act in the form of Phil Bracegirdle and Ian Coulson who delivered an excellent and informative session on “Making a difference – using new technologies and web based applications to inspire young learners”. An informative morning drew to a close with appreciative applause from the delegates following the presentation from Dr Rob Symberlist, UK Schools Strategy Group Manager, JANET (UK), Chris Davison and Heather Pettitt, SEGfL on the benefits of regional and national Broadband collaboration.

After lunch it was a case of sit down and hold onto your hats as Tim Rylands took centre stage. For 2 hours he inspired, enthralled and entertained 200 conference delegates illustrating how technology helps him harness creativity in his pupils. To watch him in action is to witness a rare gift and unique style. It’s hardly surprising that his approach pays dividends when he sees children express their creativity as well as making significant gains in attainment. And the delegates seem to like him too “Tim – fab and incredibly inspirational” “Superb – could listen to him all day long! Brilliant”

A good spread of visitors from Maidstone, Medway, Canterbury, Folkestone, Tunbridge Wells, Ashford, Dartford, Gravesend and Bromley joined conference delegates in the 60 stand Exhibition halls and summed up their visit saying “Great to be able to speak to the suppliers without any pressure” and “good atmosphere, very enjoyable and informative”

Conference delegates and visitors could also choose to attend any of the FREE Supplier Briefings presented by:

At the end of the show the prize draw winners were selected. They will each receive RM Asus Minibook

EIS Stand Prize won by Karen Rutland, Discovery School

By 4.15pm the conference halls emptied and exhibitors packed away their stands. The excitement and buzz created by 400+ people throughout the day drew to a hush as the doors closed on Kent’s leading ICT educational event.

…. well until next year when we shall be celebrating our 20th annual event
