Over the last 18 months, the Kent Community Network has gone through a transformation
The EIS Service Desk has a dedicated team of first line staff who answer support calls from our customers. They all have a broad range of IT skills and are trained to answer basic SIMS Core, Attendance, Assessment Manager and FMS calls. The majority of Solus issues are resolved by this team and as a team they regularly resolve 40 – 50% of all calls received. We thought you would be interested to meet some of them and put faces to the voices you will have spoken to.

Wireless technology has exploded into schools over the last five years. Wireless has become so popular that it's hard to believe that wireless is still a relatively new technology, one that is still finding its feet. EIS has recently been carrying out surveys in Kent Schools, and although we are pleased to see very few schools having completely open wireless networks, there are a significant number of schools still using WEP.
This seminar will give an overview of the new features available in SIMS Options 5.7 and will involve the use of Solution Editor, which is the main new addition to the software.
In the last EISNews we ran an article on our experiences of commissioning the latest version of Community Connect 4 with SR1. During the summer period we have installed 22 new CC4 systems and all have gone smoothly. Feedback from schools is very positive, with clear comments about the speed of log-on and the RM Management Console features.
Capita Children’s Services Limited have informed EIS of the need to move the SIMS .net and SIMS FMS6 databases from the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 product family (which includes the free version known as SQL 2005 Express that is used in most primary and special schools) to the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 product family in order to utilise the extra technical facilities to further enhance the SIMS suite of software.
EIS have been working very closely with the Kent Advisory Service over the last few months with regard to the use of SIMS for primary assessment from Early Years through to Key Stage 2.
What’s that “over 50% of Kent Schools signed up to KLZ with more joining daily” Well it is hardly surprising then that talk in the staffroom is all about the great impact KLZ is having on school life. At EIS, we are keen to assist schools in selecting the best solution for their ICT vision. Buying the hardware is easy. It’s turning the ICT vision into a clear project specification which sets out what you want to achieve and the features you are looking for that counts. After all, you are about to spend a serious amount of money and you need to get it right! This is where EIS can help you.
Is your network tired, does it let you down? If you answer yes to these questions EIS has the solution……
Following the successful pilot of the School Workforce Census (SWC) in October all schools should by now be preparing for the full SWC statutory return data collection. This return has be completed on the same day as the main School Census which is 21/01/2010.
