For the attention of the SIMS System Manager and Network Managers in Secondary Schools
Dear Colleague
On 17 August 2009 EIS sent an email (Email Ref: 09-EM55) to you entitled ‘Secondary - Migration of SIMS .net and SIMS FMS6 to Microsoft SQL 2008’. This in turn referred to EIS Information Notice 09-E31 which was designed to help schools understand the issues about this migration and prepare for it. It also informed schools that separate instructions for performing the migration would be made available once they had been released by Capita Children’s Services Limited and had been tested by EIS.
I am now please to inform you that instructions are now available in the form of EIS Information Notice 09-E47, which will take you through installing Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and migrating your SIMS and FMS databases from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to Microsoft SQL Server 2008.
It is strongly recommended that you read these instructions carefully in advance of starting the migration process so that you have a good understanding of what is involved before commencing the migration.
It is essential that the migration be completed before the SIMS 2010 Autumn Main Release is applied.
If, having read the Information Notice, you have any further queries about the migration issue please contact the EIS Service Desk for further assistance:
