For the attention of the SIMS System Manager

Capita Children’s Services Limited has now released an upgrade for SIMS in the form of the SIMS 2009 Autumn Update Release.
Who needs to run this upgrade?
Schools only need to implement this update if, having read the ‘What is included in the SIMS 2009 Autumn Update Release’ section at the end of this information notice, they feel they would benefit from this update. Not applying this update now will simply mean that it would be applied automatically when the next SIMS release is applied.
This release MUST be applied on the computer that is the SIMS SQL Server.
Important Note - Schools who are using the SIMS Learning Gateway 2 (SLG2) should wait to apply this upgrade until their SLG2 service has also been upgraded or their SLG2 service will cease to function.
EIS has produced Information Notice 10-E01 which will take you through how to update SIMS by downloading and applying the SIMS 2009 Autumn Update Release upgrade files via the Internet using the SIMS On-line Update Service (SOLUS) 2.
This information notice can be downloaded from the Information Notices Section on the EIS web site at www.eiskent.co.uk
EIS would urge all schools to do their SIMS upgrades using the SIMS Online Upgrade Service (SOLUS) 2 as this is by far the most efficient way to do SIMS upgrades. Schools who are not able to use SOLUS to do their upgrades i.e. those who are still using ISDN or less for their internet connectivity, should request an upgrade CD by sending an email to eis.support@kent.gov.uk
Schools that wish to use the automated method of applying this update (see EIS Information Notice 06-E27) are advised to complete the routines for ‘Making a Manual Backup of your SIMS MS SQL Database’, ‘Making a Manual Backup of your SIMS FMS6 Database’, ‘Making a Copy of your SIMS Setups Folder’ and ‘Safeguarding Any Custom Made Reports’ as described on pages 2 to 5 of the information notice prior to scheduling the automated upgrade files download and database upgrade processes.
What is included in this upgrade?
The SIMS 2009 Autumn Update Release incorporates new functionality in Attendance/Lesson Monitor, Dinner Money, STAR and System Manager as well as fixes for a number of modules.
